Brake Pad Importance
To begin, it’s important to know what makes your Honda Accord, CR-V, or Odyssey come to a complete stop, and those are the brake pads. They activate when you press down on the brake pedal, which pressurizes the hydraulic fluid in the brake lines and causes the brake pads to be deployed. They’re housed in calipers and when they make contact with the rotors of the wheel, the friction generated slows the vehicle down. This constant use will also eventually wear the pads down. When they have endured too much stress, they will eventually lose effectiveness and can even stop working outright. Driving around Los Angeles and beyond without properly working brake pads can make the car a danger to yourself and others.
Warning Signs
It won’t be hard to know when your car needs to get its brake pads replaced thanks to the warning signs. The most noticeable will be if the vehicle takes longer to come to a complete stop while you’re driving to Lincoln Park. You may also feel unusual vibrations when you try to slow the vehicle down or hear a screeching sound. Once you're parked at home or any other safe spot, you can do a quick visual assessment of the pads. Look through the spokes of the wheel, and you’ll be able to see the pads themselves. If they’re less than a quarter of an inch thick, then they’re likely worn down. You may also notice a pool of brightly colored liquid forming beneath the vehicle, which could be brake fluid. If you notice any of these issues, we highly recommend coming to our Service Department.
Replacement Process
If you catch these issues fast enough and bring them to our team of certified Honda technicians, then you’ll have nothing to worry about. We will start by taking off the wheels of your vehicle to get a better understanding of your system’s diagnosis. The calipers, brake pads, and rotors will then be uninstalled and inspected. Should any of these components need attention, then we can quickly source replacements from our Parts Department. After that, our team will conduct a quick test drive to ensure it all works properly, and then you can be on your way to head down the 10 once again.
