When you’re about six months out from the end of your lease on your Honda CR-V, Accord, or HR-V, you’ll need to make a decision about the future. The vast majority of these cases end in one of three ways. Our team at Honda Santa Monica has created this guide to help you understand the lease end options available to you!
Return the Leased Vehicle and Restart the Process
In many instances, lessees decide to return the Honda they’ve been leasing and start the sequence over again. There are a few ways to approach this. For example, if you’ve leased a Honda Accord, you may want to get the same model and trim level in the most recent year. That will give you the familiarity of the car while also updating your amenities. However, if you’ve realized that a bit more space would be a benefit to your travels in Los Angeles, then you may wish to get a Honda HR-V, an entirely different vehicle. This level of flexibility is attractive to people who lease vehicles. In any case, you’ll need to have it inspected before proceeding.
Purchase Your Leased Honda
Your leased model will be your constant travel companion to school, work, and weekend trips to Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Center. After two to four years of using that vehicle, you may be too accustomed to its reliability and presence to return it. That’s why some people elect to purchase the Honda they’ve leased. We will factor your payments into the vehicle to determine its value, and then our Finance Department will work out the remainder of the cost. In some cases, lessees will buy the vehicle because it’s sustained damage that would result in a higher penalty to return than it would to become its owner, but that’s not a common occurrence.
Return the Vehicle
The final option you have is to return the Honda to our dealership and not renew the lease. You’ll have to go through the same inspection process as you would when restarting a lease to ensure the car is in good condition. Lessees may select this path if they are moving away from Southern California, making it less feasible to lease from us. Other times, people have obtained a car from another source, making the leased model not needed, or they’ve started working from home.
